On Friday, March 17, 2023 Governor Walz signed a bill into law providing free school breakfast and lunch for Minnesota students beginning next school year. Specific details on the implementation of this new law are not yet available. The District will communicate the details to our families once we have clear direction from the State of Minnesota. In the meantime, below are the key points that might be helpful to those who have questions:
-
For the current school year, students who do not qualify for free/reduced meals will still be charged for all meals.
-
If a family did not turn in a 2022-23 Educational Benefits form (commonly referred to as a Free/Reduced Lunch form), one can still be completed for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year online or in paper form as soon as possible. Paper applications can be found in your school office or by contacting WBLAS Nutrition Services. Additional benefits may be available to students who qualify such as reduced or no fees for activities, testing and more. See additional information here.
-
If your family already qualifies for free/reduced meals, your student will continue to receive those meals for free through the end of the 2022-23 school year.
If students have unpaid meal fees, those must still be paid. Please contact Nutrition Services (nutritionservices@isd624.org or 651-407-7515) to make a payment or work out a payment plan.
